FASAH customs broker: what they do and why importers authorise one

A FASAH broker is a licensed customs agent authorised to file declarations on behalf of importers. More than 90% of commercial cargo in Saudi Arabia clears through brokers: the platform, its notifications and ZATCA correspondence are Arabic-first, and declaration errors carry penalties charged to the importer. Clearway is an independent brokerage: it works for the importer, not for a carrier or seller.

What the broker actually handles

The independent-broker distinction matters: a broker owned by a carrier optimises for the carrier's schedule; an independent broker answers only to the importer paying the invoice.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a FASAH broker cost?

A fixed fee per declaration plus disbursements (duty, VAT, port charges) passed through at cost. Clearway quotes the full amount in writing before the shipment sails.

Does authorising a broker mean losing control?

No. The power of attorney covers customs filing only; the importer sees every declaration, payment and release order, and can revoke the authorisation at any time.

Can a broker fix a shipment another party filed?

Yes. Stuck declarations can be taken over; Clearway audits the filing, responds to queries and completes the release.

Does Clearway handle freight as well?

Clearway focuses on brokerage and clearance and coordinates with the importer's carrier of choice, keeping the broker independent from the freight side.
